How To Prevent Acne Breakouts

Tips to prevent pimples...

There are many different causes of acne and pimples. While it may be difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of pimples, there are some simple things that you can do to help prevent them. A few changes to your everyday routine might help you prevent breakouts.

Stop touching your face

Most people don't realize how often they actually touch their faces. Throughout the course of the day we touch many different things...door handles, shopping carts, cell phones, pens, etc. All of these things have bacteria on them, and when you touch your face you are transferring the bacteria from your hands to your face. The less you touch your face, the less bacteria on your face and the less chance you have of breaking out. Try being more mindful about not touching your face in order to prevent pimples from forming. While this may not completely clear up your breakouts, it will help prevent unnecessary breakouts.

Choose Cosmetic Products Wisely

If you suffer from acne breakouts you need to be extremely careful about what you are putting on your face. Every day we put numerous products on our face that can potentially cause breakouts. Moisturizers, face washes, cleansers, exfoliates, and makeup products can cause acne breakouts. When choosing cosmetic products always read the labels. If possible, try to opt for oil-free makeup products. Excess oil from makeup products can clog your pores and result in pimples. Also, try to avoid products with harsh chemicals. Try using facial cleansers and moisturizers meant for sensitive skin to decrease the chances of the products irritating your skin and exacerbating acne. You may also want to look into using some natural remedies, such as coconut oil as a face moisturizer or apple cider vinegar as a facial toner.

Stick to a Skincare Routine

A good skincare routine is imperative to preventing acne breakouts. It may take you some time to perfect your skincare routine, but once you find a routine that works for you, stick to it! A good routine typically consists of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing your skin. For more info on skincare routines, check out my skincare routine article.

Be Aware of Your Environment

There are many environmental factors that can contribute to acne. Here are some common environmental factors that can worsen acne breakouts...
  • Cell phones- When you hold a cell phone up to your face, the bacteria can transfer from the phone to your face. Keep your phone clean and sanitized at all times.
  • Face towels- Set aside a special towel that you use just to dry your face. Change it out every other day because the moist condition of the towel can harbor a lot of bacteria.
  • Pillow cases- Your face comes into contact with your pillowcase each and every night. Make sure you are changing your pillowcase every few days to avoid breakouts.
